You do not need to have a large area of yard to enjoy good landscaping on your property. When done right, the small yard landscaping can look just a beautiful as that of a much larger area.

In a small backyard, a fence, a wall or the back boundary will make the yard appear even smaller. This can be rectified by developing another boundary with the same texture of the ground and placing it in front of the current boundary. You can simulate that boundary by painting the new boundary if it is not possible to get material of the same texture as the ground.

You can create different levels in the space to make the yard appear larger; this can be done by the addition of more horizontal planes to the space. You can add a patio to lend some privacy in your yard, and it will allow you and your friends and family to feel relaxed and safe when out in your yard. The construction of the patio may be simplified by using just wooden posts and putting a roof over it, or you can utilize stone and brick, use a bar and plumbing.

Regardless of the complexity or the simplicity of the structure, a patio's main purpose is to relax and enjoy your time in the back yard. The patio may be built with a partial opening to the back yard, allowing you to roam through the yard, and sometimes they may have a low 3 foot high border, and open above that until the roof above.

You may add some gardening to the patio by using containers. Baskets containing plants can be hung from the roof and pots placed on the floor of the patio, and although they will be somewhat sheltered, they will still be affected by the heat and the humidity.
